For the longest time, I was certain that I would make my fortune somehow in the world of art—which is exactly what I did for years. As a child, I would sit drawing in front of the TV with myriad "Learn to Draw" programs. The first time I created a drawing following the instructions in a book called How to Draw Dogs, I proudly took my masterpiece to my parents and their friends, seated around a table playing cards. They all laughed and said how cute and funny it was. Funny?? I puzzled for only a second before responding with "yeah, I meant to do that!" and laughing along. Thus began my cartoonist days. Professionally, none of my comics reached fruition—but I worked in film animation in Chicago, inking and painting and assisting with special effects for TV commercials.
I also enjoy oil painting. This is one muse I tend to relegate to the back burner for the simple reason that, of all the arts, it's the one that makes me most angry to have to interrupt for "real life." I'm not sure that I would've been a brilliant painter; but I enjoy it so much that when I'm forced to stop for going to the job, eating, sleeping, etc., I'm miserable—more so than any other creative endeavor. Come retirement, maybe I can make up for lost time! Meanwhile, included here are drawings and a few samples of my strip, Skunk & Schnauzer.
